■ CANADA
New Joint Venture
SCANTECH/NYQUIST SYSTEMS ■
Arpeco and Rotoflex dominated the market for inspection and finishing machines for many years. After demise of both companies the situation changed completely. This is one of the reasons why the newly founded joint-venture between Scantech and Nyquist Systems intends to offer some very interesting perspectives and process step production possibilities to the users of finishing equipment.
Toronto-based Scantech was a strong technology partner to Arpeco (founded in 1967 and operated by its President ALLAN PRITTIE) for many years. In late 2003, Scantech began the design of more inspection, die-cutting, and finishing machines. Today Scantech provides 12 different machine platforms that cover web widths of up to 22”.
Nyquist Systems was founded eight years ago by Dr STEPHAN KREBS, who was for many years working at Rotoflex International as R&D Manager. Nyquist Systems developed an innovative workflow, which connects the different stages from PDF validation in prepress (ImageInspector), the inline inspection on the press (WebInspector), the defect waste control at the central QC station and the final control of the rewinder by the scheduler (RollScheduler). Erhardt+Leimer acquired the production and marketing rights for this workflow.
The new joint venture combines the key competencies in machine production, process technology, electronics, software, and machine vision. Improvement in ergonomics, increase of productivity, new process step provision and performance are the targets for the new joint venture. New innovations will be available right from the start.
